Just like everyone assumed, The Force Awakens broke box office records just like the Death Star broke Alderaan.
[dropcap size=small]F[/dropcap]or its opening day, The Force Awakens grossed around $120.5 million in US box offices alone. How good of an opening day was this in comparison to other movies you may ask? The former record holder was Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which made $91.7 million on its opening day in 2011. That is almost $29 million more.
The Force Awakens also broke the records for the biggest Star Wars opening weekend, the biggest December opening weekend, and the biggest opening weekend for director J.J. Abrams. And this is only going off of Friday’s profits.
The record for highest grossing weekend opening should be the next to succumb to the power of the Force; Disney is predicting for a $220 million opening weekend.
In total, the film has brought in roughly $250 million worldwide since its opening on Wednesday.
Records were broken in many of the 44 overseas markets the film opened in, including the U.K., Ireland, and Germany.
So if you haven’t seen the movie yet, go see it and if you have already seen it, go see it again.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac and is in theaters everywhere now.
