Get ready to hop back into hits like Twisted Metal: Black and the GTA trilogy.
A couple of weeks back, Sony confirmed that PS2 emulation is coming to the PS4.
Now, just a day before the Playstation Experience Event, the first batch of PS2 games that will be playable on PS4 have been revealed; and the best part is, they can be downloaded starting tomorrow.
The games are:
- Dark Cloud
- Grand Theft Auto III
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
- Rogue Galaxy
- The Mark of Kri
- Twisted Metal: Black
- War of the Monsters
Each game will cost $14.99, with the exception of Twisted Metal: Black, which will be $9.99.
This news was confirmed via a Playstation Blog post by SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida, who stressed that the release of these games is to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of Playstation, and the legacy of the PS2.
Also confirmed were the speculated technical specifications of the PS2 emulation on PS4. Specifically, these games will be up-rendered in 1080p, and feature trophy support.
These games will also support Remote Play for PS Vita, as well as all the other staple PS4 features like Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support.
Mr. Yoshida concluded his post by promising more PS2 games on the way for PS4, and asking fans what games they would like to see come to the platform.
While this is great news for PS2 fans, especially those who have a classic GTA craving, Sony has yet to officially comment on whether PS2 emulation extends beyond downloading these up-resed titles.
Specifically, they have yet to address the possibility of PS2 disc-based emulation on the PS4.
However, there is a fair chance we will be learning much more about PS2 emulation during the PS Experience, which take place in Moscone West,San Francisco, on December 5-6 .
We’ll be sure to let you know when more information comes, and in the meantime, enjoy reliving these classic games. (We highly recommend Rogue Galaxy.)
