A sequel to the hit Xbox exclusive is slated for sometime next year.
In early 2014, Xbox gamers were treated to Titanfall, a mech-based shooter exclusive to the Microsoft gaming platforms.
As both a hit with critics and a commercial success, fans have been clamoring for a sequel, and now it looks like it won’t be long before we see Titanfall 2, as well as mobile spin-offs titles.
Titanfall 2 is reportedly coming in 2016 as a multi-platform release. That means Playstation gamers will finally be able get their hands on a Titan.
Also slated for next year are Android and iOS Titanfall games that will be developed by Particle City, founded by members of first game’s development team Respawn Studios, and Nexon, a studio who specializes in free-to-play games.
In an interview with Polygon, Particle City founder Vince Zampella and Nexon’s Owen Mahoney discussed their approach to Titanfall on mobile platforms, and how it would differ from the console counterparts.
On thing the developers made clear in the interview is that the mobile games would not just be ports of the main games, rather they will be created specifically for on the go usage.
“We’re not of the view that you take a first-person shooter that’s great on a console and PC and just put it on mobile,” Mahoney explained. “You have to work with what the platform can do.”
The developers also emphasized that the Titanfall mobile games would be games they want to play, not just cash grabs or time wasters.
Zampella specifically wants a “shorter term gaming experience, something that adds value to the main game — games where I want to check in multiple times a day, not the same experience ported over.”
The developers of the iOS and Android Titanfall games seem to understand that a mobile game should deliver a satisfying and separate experience from a core console game, similar to Bethesda’s Fallout Shelter.
With promising spin-off titles, the Titanfall franchise appears to be in good hands.
Titanfall 2 and its spin-offs will release in 2016.
