Star Wars Land will open in both Anaheim, California and Orlando, Florida!
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n the last few years, Universal Studios has had Disney’s number, due to The Island of Adventures and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter expansions that have increased the amount of visitors they have had. Now, fan favorite Star Wars will get its own park expansion in both the California and Florida Disney Parks.
The 14-acre Star Wars lands at Anaheim, California’s Disneyland and Orlando, Florida’s Walt Disney World will introduce a new planet from the intergalactic film saga, the company said, commenting on one of Disney’s largest park expansions.
The park will include two new attractions. The first attraction gives you the opportunity to take control of the Millennium Falcon and the other is the Cantina, the pub located on the Planet of Tatooine where you can sit back, enjoy a nice glass of blue milk and just maybe see who shot first! The new land is also said to be devoid of any regular Disney cast members but rather will feature new characters from the world in all of the service roles. Everything will be fully immersive.
Disney announced the park expansions during its D23 Expo fan convention, which also includes an 11-acre Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. The announcement was made by Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger. Disney has yet to comment on the cost of building the parks, but most recently the company spent $1 billion on Cars Land in 2012, which is 12-acres in size. Cars Land opened in Disney’s California Adventure back in 2012 and will have its debut in Shanghai next year.
This only adds to the amount of excitement surrounding Star Wars as fans get ready for the release of Star Wars: Battlefront in November and Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens in December.
Disney plans to start construction in Disneyland in 2017. There is no set date announced for Disney World at this time.
