The Playable Teaser (P.T. on PSN) to ‘Silent Hills‘ is all fans will ever get to see as Konami announces they are cancelling the project effective immediately.
Initially a large mystery to PSN users, a game known only as ‘P.T.’ popped up at the end of last year toying with players and scaring the ever-loving sh*t out of them with creepy ghouls and demons (among them, a bloody fetus in a sink that would not stop crying) all before revealing that the next installment of Silent Hill would be featuring a story by Guillermo Del Toro and with the voice and likeness of the main playable protagonist as none other than Boondock Saints and The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus.
The trailer, shown below, is all that was revealed of Reedus’ involvement in ‘P.T.’ (which stood for Playable Teaser) as the game has been scrapped completely following news that the contract Konami had with Reedus has “expired”.
Hideo Kajima was also attached to the project, though he planned to leave Konami after Metal Gear Solid 5, thus solidifying his departure from Silent Hills, which Guillermo Del Toro also had said this past Sunday that his collaboration with Konami is just not happening.
“Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic Silent Hills project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.”
According to sources, a struggle for creative control between Kajima and Konami lead to a power struggle that forced the former to look for a new team to take over the leadership of future installments to the Metal Gear franchise.
In a follow-up statement to Kotaku, Konami said the following:
“In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.”
The playable teaser was a frustrating experience to say the least, and took many players several hours to complete due to unexpected random in-game events. Walkthroughs and guides online seemed to be different for nearly every player who partook in attempting to solve the P.T. puzzle to figure out exactly what it was and what was to follow. The teaser is said to be on the chopping block for the PSN, and will be removed soon with little notice.
This is such a bummer. I was REALLY looking forward to this.
