During a recent call, chairman and CEO of Disney, Bob Iger shared some crew and casting announcements for Star Wars: Episode VIII (8) and what is planned to be the first and many standalone films, ‘Rogue One‘.
Episode VIII
Ram Bergman will produce along with Kathleen Kennedy, while Rian Johnson will direct and be a part of putting together the screenplay.
It should be noted that Bergman, Johnson, and Kennedy’s film credits all include Looper, Brick, among others, both of the former being Joseph Gordon-Levitt films, leading us to believe that the 3rd Rock actor (remember that show?) could be involved in some way. But that’s just our own hunch and in no way holds any validity. Or does it? No, it doesn’t. But it might.
Rogue One
Felicity Jones, starring (The Theory of Everything, The Tempest) is set to star with Gareth Edwards directing (Monsters, Godzilla), Simon Emanuel will executive produce (The Dark Knight Rises, Fast & Furious 6), John Knoll, executive producer (Star Trek: First Contact, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest), Jason McGatlin, executive Producer (Tintin, War of the Worlds), and Chris Weitz, screenwriter (Cinderella, About a Boy, Antz).
The star of Rogue One, Felicity Jones recently earned herself an Academy Awards for best actress for The Theory of Everything. Rogue One’s title is likely a reference to the Rogue Squadron, the team of fighter pilots from the side of the Rebel Alliance, but this is only one of many possibilities. Other key details surround the crew, consisting of John Knoll who has an Academy Award for special effects while Weitz has a nomination to his name for best adapted screenplay, respectively.
