[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he final Harry Potter book was published seven years ago, but one Hungarian design student has offered a fresh new look for the series with a set of incredible minimalist covers. As part of a project for her bachelor’s degree, Kincsö Nagy designed a different cover for all seven books in J.K. Rowling’s monumental series, each with a symbol significant to that book’s storyline.
In addition to creating seven unique covers that glow in the dark, Nagy also designed interactive artwork similar to a pop-up book for the first entry in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (renamed Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States). She explained the idea behind the project:
“The Harry Potter books are extremely magical, mysterious, and adventurous. These books are on the border of childhood, therefore my goal was to redesign them with illustrations that reflect this extraordinary atmosphere.”
Unfortunately these books are one of a kind, but given the extremely positive feedback Nagy has received on the project, there are plenty of Muggles who would definitely be willing to pay for copies of their own.
Have a look at the covers and original artwork below, and it will feel like you are boarding the Hogwarts Express for the first time all over again.
And now for the interactive artwork. Be sure to give each image a couple seconds to see how it changes. Platform 9 3/4 and Harry’s invisibility cloak are particularly well done.
