Sequels like 25 Jump Street: A Semester at Sea, 26 Jump Street: Art School, and 27 Jump Street: Culinary School… sounds like those sequels will somehow come into play in the next film.
[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]uring a panel for The Last Man on Earth at this year’s WonderCon in Anaheim (which if you haven’t seen, please do so immediately), Phil Lord and Chris Miller gave us a minor tease in regards to those fake sequels and what’s to come in their latest Jump Street sequel.
“We’ve found a way that we love that makes those imagined sequels canonical and yet does something that we haven’t told you about yet, the sequels are canon.”
It’s not much but it let’s us know that they are trying to make this next sequel more than just the same thing they’ve done twice already. Given Lord and Miller’s track record of being able to turn projects that seem really far-fetched into masterpieces, we have faith in their abilities.
No details regarding the actual plot of 23 Jump Street have been released aside from those leaked Sony rumors from a while back mentioning a possible Men In Black/Jump Street crossover. We’re still not entirely sure if that a real thing or not, but it would definitely be a way different approach than the first two films.
Lord and Miller are currently signed on as producers for the film with no word yet on if they will direct. They claim that there is just not enough time in the day for them to direct every project they’d like. It’s the same reason as to why they aren’t directing the next Lego Movie.
Rodney Rothman (22 Jump Street) is currently writing the script and Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are set to return as the hilarious duo Schmidt and Jenko. Hopefully Ice Cube comes back as well.
