Green Book takes home Best Picture, and Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper should have smooched.
The 91st Academy Awards were held this past Sunday night, honoring the best films of 2018. The host-less ceremony (a welcome change) saw a handful of geeky movies receiving well-earned Oscars, most notably Black Panther and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Black Panther came home with three awards: Best Production Design, Costume Design, and Score (easily one of the best MCU scores, my favorite track is “Killmonger“); marking the first time an MCU film has won an Oscar. Wakanda Forever!
Into the Spider-Verse took home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, facing stiff competition including Pixar’s Incredibles 2 and Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs. Into the Spider-Verse is fresh, visually stunning, and easily one of our favorite 2018 films, so we’re ecstatic it won.
The show itself was fairly breezy and less painful than past years, and the highlights include Sam Jackson giving Spike Lee the most adorable hug ever, Olivia Coleman giving a sincere and moving acceptance speech for her Best Actress win, and Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga giving a show-stopping performance of “Shallow,” but not sealing the deal with a smooch. I felt robbed.
Anyway, here’s the full list of winners in each category (in bold).
