If this is true, Twitter is going to explode.
WGTC is reporting that sources close to the subject are claiming that Zendaya’s Michelle, who made her first appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming under the “MJ” nickname, may not be the actual Mary Jane Watson “MJ” she was allegedly set to replace. Apparently Marvel and Sony are looking to bring the actual Mary Jane Watson in the Far From Home sequel set to begin shooting later this year.
While we don’t mind that Zendaya is the MCU universe’s MJ, we would have preferred that she be Mary Jane Watson and not Michelle with a nickname. Everything can remain the same, just the name bothered me. Now, keep in mind that this is a rumor but these sources have been legit in the past, so this may turn out to actually be a real thing. Or maybe this is being leaked so Marvel/Sony can gauge the internet response and decide whether or not to pursue this idea depending on how Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit feel about it.
Personally, I don’t care that much but I definitely know a lot of people who will. It would be nice if Zendaya’s character was named Mary Jane Watson instead of Michelle but since she isn’t, it is going to get real awkward if Mary Jane does show up and introduce herself as ‘the new MJ’ or something stupid. And certainly, the internet will be reasonable about this and be completely understanding if this turns out to be true.
