Will we ever see an X-Men crossover?
[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]irector Scott Derrickson recently revealed Marvel’s upcoming movie Doctor Strange will officially open the doors to the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse.
With Avengers: Infinity War due in 2018 and several other standalone Marvel titles heading our way, the MCU is really shaping up. But fans have been quite vocal about their hope that the X-Men will be joining the fold with the Avengers.
Joe Russo – who’s directing Infinity War – spoke to Comicbook.com about the possibility of involving the X-Men, and revealed there are currently no plans (as far as he is aware) to include them so far:
“As far as we know, right now there isn’t talk regarding the X-Men…I don’t know if behind-the-scenes there were conversations or if there are conversations happening but we certainly haven’t heard of any.”
Although this means we probably won’t be seeing the X-Men involved in any of the upcoming Marvel projects with the Avengers anytime soon, it doesn’t mean to say we won’t ever see them. Russo may not be talking about it, but someone could be, and that gives us some hope that Xavier’s mutant pupils will make an appearance at some point.
With the as yet Untitled Wolverine Sequel due next year, we’ll at least be seeing one of the band of X-Men on the big screens in the near future.
And we might not see them with the Avengers yet, but we could be seeing them with another Marvel figure. Word spread about the possibility of a Deadpool/X-Men crossover movie back in May, and boy do we hope that happens. At the very least we really hope to someday see Hugh Jackman pop up in a Deadpool movie, because Wolverine and Deadpool’s relationship in the comic’s is truly a thing of beauty.
Doctor Strange is set to hit the big screens 28 October, 2016, Wolverine 3 is due 2 March, 2017, and finally you can catch Avengers: Infinity War in theatres 27 April, 2018.
