Microsoft announced its latest console at E3 yesterday, the Xbox One X!
Microsoft is calling its new console the most powerful gaming console ever.
Surprisingly it also happens to be the smallest Xbox console ever released. But hey, it’s not about the size of the package, it’s what you do with it…or what’s inside…anyway, you get my drift!
The new Xbox One X is showcasing some epic specs including:
- 6 Teraflop GPU clocking in at 1.172GHz
- 12GB of GDDR5 memory
- 326GB/s of memory bandwidth
The above makes this new Xbox over 4 times as powerful as the original Xbox One.
You can expect from this beast, true 4K resolution (8+ million pixels), HDR, wide colour gamut, premium Dolby Atmos sound (let’s be honest here, who even has this kind of sound set up) as well as support 4K UHD Bluray playback.
All of the above making the new Xbox One X perfectly capable of running games in 4K easy as!
Betting you all wish you bought that 4K TV now! However, for us mere mortals who don’t have a 4K TV, the Xbox One X is reportedly using a technique called supersampling, which apparently means improved 1080p output.
The new Xbox is showcasing a new 16nm custom chip which has liquid cooled vapour chambers and features optimised power management.
One of the best parts of the announcement (for someone who has a large collection of games currently sitting in their entertainment unit) is the backwards compatibility. All Xbox One accessories and games will reportedly work with the new Xbox including some of the original Xbox games.
Interestingly enough Microsoft has stayed pretty quiet on the VR front which is where PlayStation currently have a solid offering.
It’s unclear why VR didn’t appear at the event, however Xbox boss, Phil Spencer revealed that the show was about consoles and games, and stressed that the team at Microsoft were firm believers in “mixed-reality technology”. He goes on to say,
“It’s early days for the tech and developers are still constantly learning.”
VR aside, no doubt a few of you are chomping at the bit to get your hands on one of these machines.
The Xbox One X will be available on 7th November with the price point rumoured to be around the USD$499 mark.
