Rila Fukushima is on board to join Scarlett Johansson in the Ghost in a Shell reboot!

[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]reamworks has added another member to Ghost in a Shell‘s cast! You may remember her from The Wolverine as Wolverine’s partner to help fight off his enemies in Japan. Yes that’s right, it’s Rila Fukushima!

Ghost in a Shell features a female cyborg that is apart of a elite-cyborg fighting squad named Section 9 left with the task of taking down the most dangerous criminals.

Fukushima joins a cast led by Scarlett Johansson and includes Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, and Takeshi Kitano. The movie will be directed by Rupert Sanders, who was also the director of Snow White and the Huntsman back in 2012. The script was written by Johnathan Herman and Jamie Moss.

This reboot of the animated Ghost of a Shell (1995) has received plenty of criticism for the lack of Japanese characters, including Avengers‘ Scarlett Johansson playing the lead role as Kusanagi. Perhaps this criticism led to Dreamworks searching for Japanese actors/actresses. One thing that is for certain: Fukushima is a great addition to the cast! She was spectacular in her role as Yukio in The Wolverine. Fukushima also featured in CW’s Arrow.

Ghost in a Shell is set to be released on April 14, 2017!
