There will be blood, bub.
While Professor Xavier’s students are gearing up to face their biggest threat yet in X-Men: Apocalypse, another mutant is getting ready for his final big screen appearance.
Hugh Jackman will don his adamantium claws for the last time in the third Wolverine standalone film, coming next spring.
Recently, new official details on the film have emerged.
In an interview with Collider to promote Apocalypse, X-Men series producer Simon Kinberg revealed that Wolverine 3 has entered production, and has already begun filming. He also hinted at the film having a new, darker tone.
“It’s a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you’ve ever seen in any of these movies.”
Winberg went on to address a couple of earlier reports made about what to expect in the film. First, while not officially confirming anything, he did mention Patrick Stewart possibly returning as Professor X. He did however confirm that the film will indeed be rated R, which has long been speculated. Finally, he also confirmed the film will take place in the future…so this is definitely an adaptation of Old Man Logan, right?
” I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”
Leaked Poster for Wolverine III.
We’re not surprised by the R rating, Deadpool probably ensured this, but a Western-style Wolverine movie sounds incredible, and we’re excited to see how Logan takes his final bow.
The film will be directed by The Wolverine helmer James Mangold, and costars Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Eriq Lasalle, and Stephen Merchant.
Wolverine 3 hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
