Is Stephen Merchant finally going to play a superhero?
[dropcap size=small]N[/dropcap]ow that the cat is out of the bag with Hugh Jackman’s involvement in the upcoming blockbuster X-Men: Apocalypse, production should be starting soon for Wolverine 3. The story line is supposedly taking place “in the future,” revealed Producer Simon Kinberg, and as rumor has it, that it could be drawing inspiration from the ‘Old Man Logan’ saga. That all is a bit vague, but it does imply that the story will most likely occur after the events of Days of Future Past and allow Wolverine to be in a much older age.
Wolverine 3 is expected to be Hugh Jackman’s last film as the limb-shredding mutant. Joining him will be Boyd Holbrook (the main villain Narcos), Richard E. Grant (a crazy mad scientist), and Sir Patrick Stuart who is set to return to his role as Professor X.
Stephan Merchant, who was just announced to be joining the cast, is the co-creator of the hit TV show The Office, star of HBO’s Hello Ladies, and frequent, long-time collaborator with Ricky Gervais. It certainly is a wonder as to what sort of role he will fill, considering his tall, lanky build that most of his roles play off of. It’s certainly an unexpected addition to the film, but perhaps this is his way of showing audiences that he is trying to push his boundaries as to what roles he can play. In any case, it will definitely be interesting to see him in a superhero movie.
Wolverine 3 hits theaters on March 3rd, 2017.
