I am Groot, I am Groot. I am Groot?
It looks like our favorite tree monster from the MCU may star in his own movie. Or at least that’s what Vin Diesel thinks.
In an interview with MTV UK to promote XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, Diesel explained that a Groot movie is “inevitable,” and he’d love to explore Groot’s home planet.
“It’s something that [Guardians of the Galaxy writer-director] James Gunn has talked about and it’s something that I know that he would love to do,” says Diesel.
“Sure, I think it could be very interesting. I think it’s inevitable, I think that character is so enigmatic. He was already one of the most unique characters in the Marvel universe, and I think what Marvel has done — primarily what James Gunn has done — to realize that character has exceeded beyond any of its expectations.”
Currently, there are no official plans for a Groot film. Diesel has a history of making claims about his involvement with MCU projects that haven’t materialized (like his Inhumans role, which probably isn’t going to happen), so take his words with a grain of salt.
That being said, we’d love to see a Rocket and Groot movie were the two get into all sorts of space shenanigans. We’ll see those two in a few months before that (might) happen though.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5.
