The Graboids are back, and this time, they’re terrorizing South Africa!
Tremors 5, the latest installment in the cult-classic series since 2004’s Tremors 4: The Legend Begins, reportedly began principal photography in South Africa last month.
The Tremors franchise became an underground hit (pun most certainly intended) due largely to its adrenaline-fueled sci-fi action-adventure, mixed with a dash of witty tongue-in-cheek comedy.
Series veteran Michael Gross returns for Tremors 5 in the iconic role of Burt Gummer, a weapons expert and subterranean creature hunter fighting against the vicious Graboids (who later evolve into Ass Blasters. Yes…Ass Blasters). Jaime Kennedy joins the cast for Tremors 5 as Travis — Burt’s right-hand man and tech expert. The pair is joined in South Africa by an international cast as they battle the deadly creatures; but of course, things may turn out to be more than they bargained for.
[dropcap size=small]“[/dropcap]The theatrical release of the original Tremors in 1990 combined suspense-filled action, sci-fi imagination and witty humor in the tale of a tiny Nevada town terrorized by giant man-eating worms known as Graboids. The Graboids eventually morphed into even more deadly creatures known as Ass Blasters. In this all-new adventure that travels halfway around the world to South Africa, the Graboids and the Ass Blasters are not only bigger and badder but Tremors 5 introduces an additional unexpected surprise that raises the stakes in the battle for survival.”
The film is directed by Don Michael Paul, director of Jarhead 2: Field of Fire (Yes, that exists). John Whelpley, who previously wrote Tremors 3: Back to Perfection, returns to the series as Tremor 5‘s screenwriter. The film is being produced by Ogden Gavanski (Warm Bodies).
Tremors 5 will be released on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital HD in 2016.
