Actor Tom Hardy has expressed great interest in taking the role of Frank Castle.
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he Punisher has not appeared on the big screen since 2008 in Punisher: War Zone, which was a box office flop. The movie was the furthest thing fans wanted to see of one of Marvel’s greatest anti-heroes. No talks of anything Punisher related have been released by Marvel at this time but actor Tom Hardy has said he would love to play the character. In an interview with Collider, Hardy talked about his newest film, Mad Max: Fury Road, and then about his departure from Suicide Squad, which brought up the topic of comic book movies. When asked if he had any interest in any other comic book movies, Hardy replied:
“I want The Punisher… I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something…I don’t know what I want.”
Hardy has had a fair share of experience in comic book movies, playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. He seems to be a perfect fit for the role and Marvel does have places to fit The Punisher. Although a standalone movie would not come until well after 2019, the Daredevil series would be a perfect place to introduce the character. Daredevil and The Punisher have had their fair share of brawls and would be a good story arc for the show.
Though none of this is actually confirmed by anyone at Marvel, it does give hope that one day The Punisher might receive some well needed redemption.
