4 years later, and we’re still no closer to a Splinter Cell movie.

Back in 2012, Ubisoft Motion Pictures cast Tom Hardy as the lead role in an upcoming Splinter Cell movie. He was to play Sam Fisher, a special ops guy who was the main character of the first game in the series. Since then, there hasn’t been much talk about the film, the actors role, or anything.

Back in December, the former CEO of UMP, Jean-Julien Baronnet, sat down for an interview and discussed the movie. He spoke of Tom Hardy as well as Michael Fassbender (who is set to play Callum Lynch in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed film) and the traits the both possess to fill their respective roles.

Baronnet spoke of Fassbender as “the best actor of his generation,” to be able to pull off playing Callum Lynch and a 15th century Spanish ancestor. He also had this to say about Hardy:

“It’s exactly like Tom Hardy with Splinter Cell – we chose Tom for exactly the same reason”, Baronnet said. “Tom is doing indie movies like Bronson and he’s doing Batman [The Dark Knight Rises] or whatever or Mad Max [Fury Road]. So this combination of factors for us was very important because it was a symbol for what we want to do in a movie – which is to do a movie of course that should be mainstream, but with the content we would like to have, so Michael does exactly this kind of stuff”.

The movie has gone through several revisions with the script, casting, and even directors (losing Director Doug Liman back in 2015), but with Assassin’s Creed slated for a December 2016 release, we can be hopeful to hear more about Splinter Cell in the coming months.
