There will be more flights for the Maverick!
It was recently reported that Tom Cruise, who played Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the original Top Gun, has begun his flight training for his return as Maverick in Top Gun 2. He has been training flying helicopters, which is different from the jets he had been piloting in the first Top Gun. You can go here to see the photos.
Top Gun 2 is going to follow Maverick as a flight instructor for the new generation of pilots during a period where drones are replacing pilots. Top Gun 2 is expected to begin filming at the end of the year. So far only Tom Cruise has been confirmed to be in the film and there is currently no director confirmed for the film but Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, Oblivion) is in talks to be the director.
Top Gun 2 has no exact release date yet but is scheduled to be released sometime in 2019.
