Except for the fact it was my birthday
My stupid birthday
The hotly anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming spinoff not set in the MCU but set in the same universe as Homecoming, maybe, now has a release date. I’m kidding about the hotly anticipated part.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed a number of release dates for Sony’s upcoming film slate, including Silver & Black, set to release February 2019.
The film will reportedly follow the exploits of mercenary Silver Sable (Silver Sablinova) and burglar Black Cat (Felicia Hardy), two allies/occasional love interests of Spider-Man. Specifically, as mentioned in a previous rumor, the film focuses on Silver Sable hunting down Black Cat, as the cat burglar can help Sable track down Mendel Stromm, a shady figure tied to her past.
Pop duo Aly & AJ are rumored to portray Silver Sable and Black Cat.
Disclaimer: We just made that rumor up.
Silver & Black, set to be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Secret Life of Bees), will be the second film in the very confusing “Sony’s Marvel Universe,” the first being Venom, starring Tom Hardy, which releases on October 5, 2018. This cinematic universe will apparently not be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but will take place in “the same reality” of Spider-Man: Homecoming. I’m not kidding about that.
Is the Sony Marvel Universe confusing and unnecessary? Absolutely. Could Venom or Silver & Black be interesting experiments? For sure, but this is Sony we’re talking about. There’s a good chance things will change, so we’ll keep you updated.
Silver & Black hits theaters on February 8, 2019.
