‘The Raid’ Director may Take on the Deathstroke Standalone Movie

And stick around for a list of every DCEU film “in development!!!!”

DC’s signature mercenary/assassin might be getting his own movie. The Wrap reports that Gareth Evans, director of The Raid movies, is in early talks to direct and write a Deathstroke movie.

Garbed in black and orangish-yellow, Deathstroke (Slade Wilson) is prominent villain in the DC Comics universe, most notably as a reoccurring foe of the Teen Titans. The mercenary has appeared in a number of DC projects outside of the comics, such as the Cartoon Network Teen Titans series from the early 2000’s, the CW Arrowverse, and the video game Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Hunky hot man Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike), has been attached to portray Deathstroke in the DC Extended Universe for some time, and will reportedly be the villain in the solo Batman film. In fact, last year Ben Affleck tweeted out a brief clip of Deathstroke, with Manganiello presumably under the mask, creepily walking toward the camera, hinting at his appearance in the upcoming Justice League. Maybe.

Since then, we haven’t heard, or seen, anything about Deathstroke appearing in Justice League, The Batman, or any DCEU property.

We really love The Raid, so we’re hoping Deathstroke’s solo outing is as badass as Evans’ films.

HOWEVER.

Let’s talk about the DCEU real quick. Over the past year, there’s been a number of reports and rumors about DC films that are apparently in the early stages of development. To get right to it, below is a complete list of the DCEU’s (alleged) upcoming movie roster. Movies that are in post-production (actually happening) are in green. Movies that are in pre-production/have release dates are in orangish-yellow (probably happening), and movies that have been announced/in-development (MAYBE happening) are in black.

Justice League – November 17

Aquaman – December 21, 2018

Shazam! – April 5, 2019

Wonder Woman 2 – December 13, 2019

Cyborg – April 3, 2020

Green Lantern Corps – July 24, 2020

The Batman

Batgirl

Black Adam

Deadshot

Deathstroke

Flashpoint

Gotham City Sirens

Joker and Harley Quinn

Joker Origin Story

Justice League Dark

Justice League Sequel

Lobo

Man of Steel 2

Nightwing

Suicide Squad 2

In total, that’s 21 films. Two of which are for sure coming, and four probably.

For prospective, the MCU has 17 films total (including Thor: Ragnarok), and an additional six that have release dates/are in various stages of production.

So why make a big dumb list. To make fun of the DCEU, and how bloated that lineup is? No. It’s to keep expectations in check. Things change, films get bumped or scrapped all the time (remember when Inhumans was going to be a movie?), so as much as I really want this Deathstroke movie, it might not happen. Plus, the DCEU is in a precarious place right now, with the fate of a number of the movies above probably relying on the success of Justice League.

Best we can do, as always, is wait and see what happens. And look at Joe Manganiello’s abs.
