The First ‘Supergirl’ Trailer Is Here and it Absolutely Rules

The first official trailer for Supergirl has touched down, and it looks phenomenal.

The footage immediately hits you with major Guardians of the Galaxy energy—vibrant colors, cosmic chaos, and the visual tone of a synth-pop album cover that gained sentience and decided to punch someone through a meteor.

Kara Zor-El herself seems to be recovering from the kind of interplanetary party that ends with someone saying, “Wait… this isn’t Earth?” She’s seen wandering through an alien world that radiates “last night got out of hand” energy, before quickly getting pulled into the kind of trouble only a Kryptonian with questionable impulse control can find.

Oh, and the real showstopper? Our first proper look at Jason Momoa’s Lobo. Yes, Jason Momoa—who is already shaped like a heavy-metal album cover—now gets to play a character whose entire personality is… being a heavy-metal album cover.

The film, written by Ana Nogueira and directed by Craig Gillespie, already feels like it will be a really solid addition to the the DCU: energetic, stylish, colorful, and—dare we say it—fun. It’s the kind of trailer that makes you briefly forget the existential dread of wondering which corporation will own Warner Bros. next week and whether that corporation will immediately fire everyone and replace the DCU with a live-action Velma reboot.

Supergirl flies into theaters on June 26th, and based on this trailer, it looks absolutely incredible. Now all we need is for the studio to still exist by then.
