Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will not be reprising their role as Michelle Tanner in the Full House revival.
[dropcap size=small]F[/dropcap]uller House will be premiering without one of the most pivotal characters from the original series. Mary-Kate and Ashley Oslen will not be returning to the sequel to the beloved ABC sitcom Full House to continue their role as Michelle.
In an statement to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Robert L. Boyett said;
“Although Ashley and Mary-Kate will not be a part of Fuller House, I know how much Full House has meant to them and they are still very much considered family. It has been exciting to see how they have built their professional careers, and I support their choice to focus on their fashion brands and various business endeavors. I appreciate their support and good wishes towards Fuller House.”
Fuller House will star original cast members Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, and Andrea Barber, who will reprise their roles as D.J., Stephanie, and Kimmy Gibbler respectively. John Stamos is set to produce the show and also appear as Uncle Jesse in a guest role while Dave Coulier will return as Uncle Joey. Bob Saget and Lori Loughlin are both in talks to reprise their roles as Danny and Rebecca.
Almost all of the original cast will be back at some point with the exception of the Olsen twins. Only a few days after John Stamos announced the show on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the Olsen twins made a statement saying that they were not contacted about the show. Jodie Sweetin made a statement to Time regarding how Michelle will be referenced in the show, saying that, “It’s not like were not talking about her (Michelle). I love and support (Mary-Kate and Ashley), and I think we’re going to be just fine.” This means that Michelle will still be talked about in the show even if she is not actually in it.
Ashley has not acted since an uncredited appearance in I’m Still Here in 2010, and Mary-Kate has not acted since Beastly in 2011. Whether or not this played a role in the decision to not bring the Olsen twins back is unknown.
Fuller House follows D.J. Tanner-Fuller living in San Francisco. D.J. works as a vet and is pregnant and recently widowed. Stephanie is now an aspiring musician, and Kimmy is a single mother with a teenage daughter named Ramona. Both Stephanie and Kimmy decide to move in with D.J. to help take care of D.J.’s two boys J.D. and Max, and her baby that is on the way.
Fuller House is set to begin later this summer and will premiere on Netflix in 2016.
