The new Dragon Ball Super movie is teasing a brand new villain

So I am sitting here after a few wines, listening to 90’s gangster rap and my phone pings letting me know that not only has my editor given me a new assignment but he’s given me one that is pretty close to my heart.

That’s right, girls like Dragon Ball too.

I can’t even explain to you all how prolific DBZ has been in my life over the last 10 years and this is the moment that I pretend I don’t have a Twitter alter ego that may or may not be role playing in the Dragon Ball universe.

Ok, someone has had one too many wines.  Lets get into it, shall we.

The 20th movie in the Dragon Ball series was announced last December and will feature a story focusing on the Saiyans and the origins of Goku’s power (finally! Because this really needs to be explained to me being a massive Trunks fan).

Damn, son……

Series creator Akira Toriyama stated the film will feature a new villain that’s been saved for this very idea:

“The Dragon Ball Super movie this time will be the next story in the series currently airing on TV. It will be an episode after catching our breath from the climax of the Tournament of Power with the universe’s existence on the line; with content that will give a little better understanding about Freeza and the Saiyans, which I hadn’t properly depicted up till now; and leading to a mighty foe saved for the occasion, which I think has it shaping up to be a really enjoyable story.”

This new movie aims to look at the relationship between Freeza and the Saiyans before the mighty race was virtually wiped out.

Toriyama hints at a “mighty new foe” that has a tie to both of these things.

In the past, the series has had a habit of creating new villains related to either Freeza or Goku himself in some way.

Since Toriyama also states that he has been saving this new foe for when he planned to talk more about Freeza and the Saiyans, we can only speculate that the new foe must have a close connection to Goku’s past.

Not only does it aim to be the best film in the series, original creator Akira Toriyama will be contributing to the film’s script and new character designs. So hold on to your hats Dragon Ball fans, this one will be one to remember.
