The Force Awakens Director Says Mark Hamill Deserves Oscar for The Last Jedi

Looks like we’ll be seeing more of Luke Skywalker for sure!

[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]e were all disappointed when we saw Luke Skywalker in The Force Awakens for a grand total of 45 seconds. But for The Last Jedi, executive producer and The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams says that Luke Skywalker should be up for an Oscar for his performance.

“I think we are all going to be very upset if he does not win an Oscar, and no one more upset than Mark.”

Abrams was in Los Angeles at the Oscar Wilde awards when commenting on Hamill’s performance. Abrams didn’t get into what exactly made Hamill’s performance “Oscar-worthy,” but he did talk about Hamill versatility.

“He is hysterically funny. He has done comedy. He is an amazing guy—he can do anything.”

These very comments obviously tell us that Luke Skywalker will be in The Last Jedi for more than 20 seconds on the big screen. Even though we knew this before Abrams comments, it just tells us that he plays a pivotal role in The Last Jedi. Most likely get to see the old man whip out his lightsaber that we haven’t seen in action since Return of the Jedi. We won’t truly know until the movie comes out, but it’s good to know that our expectations for Luke’s role in The Last Jedi should be “Oscar-worthy.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released to theaters on December 15th!
