The Squad may reunite to begin filming next year.
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]ccording to The Hollywood Reporter (via CNET), the second Suicide Squad movie could start filming next year.
During an interview to talk about his role in the highly anticipated return of Netflix’s House of Cards, Joel Kinnaman got on to the topic of the planned Suicide Squad sequel. Kinnaman, who played Rick Flag in the first movie, expressed his enthusiasm about reprising his role by stating that he’d “definitely come back for it”.

After being asked what’s happening with Suicide Squad 2, Kinnaman revealed that the current plan for the film may see shooting begin in 2018:
“As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change”.
Just as Kinnaman says, everything can chop and change in the meantime, so nothing’s certain when it comes to shooting schedules at this stage. No director is attached to the project, which will put things at a standstill for the time being, and aside from some rumours surrounding Mel Gibson’s possible involvement, no other names have surfaced in relation to the director’s chair as of yet.
With so many films in DC’s line-up and plenty of factors to account for before filming can begin, it’d be understandable if the sequel gets put on the back seat for now.
As the cast is busy working on other projects, it may be some time before we see a second Suicide Squad movie hit the big screens. Whenever that time comes, the sequel will have a lot to make up for after the disappointing reception of the first movie.
