Steve Rogers – Captain America No More, Says Director

It’ll be a while until we see Captain America again.

[dropcap size=small]F[/dropcap]ollowing the intense battle that took place between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, fans were left with the heartbreaking scene of Tony Stark saying, “That shield doesn’t belong to you, you don’t deserve it. My father made that shield!” From here Rogers dropped his shield before walking away with his friend Bucky Barnes. Yet, Rogers walked away from much more than just Tony Stark, he left behind not only his friendship with Tony Stark and his positions in the Avengers but his role as the one and only Captain America.

So now that Steve Rogers left behind his iconic shield we are all left with the question as to whether or not Steve Rogers is Captain America anymore. Thankfully, the Russo brothers answered this question while doing press for the upcoming release of Captain America: Civil War on Blu-Ray and DVD.

“I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity,” said Joe. “It’s him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.”

Nevertheless, even though Rogers isn’t Captain America anymore that doesn’t mean he is completely missing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe now. In the past, Chris Evans has given several different answers to the question of whether or not he’d like to continue playing Captain America when his contract is up. Now that his contract is technically up it seems that the actor doesn’t want to leave his role as Captain America if Marvel will still have him.

“We’ll see. I know in the comic books that the shield gets passed off. And what you do know, more than anything else in this process — meeting fans, experiencing these junkets and people who love the character — the character is bigger than you and whatever the character needs, whatever Marvel needs for that arc, I’m willing to do. So if that is me passing it off, you pass it off. But if they want to make more, I’m ready.”

Just as Chris Evans mentioned, in the comic books the shield gets passed off many times to different characters. In the comics, Bucky Barnes becomes the next Captain America and so does Sam Wilson (Falcon) but ultimately the shield and the suit finds its way back to Steve Rogers. With Bucky being placed in cryostasis so he doesn’t become Hydra’s ultimate assassin again, it would be safe to assume that he isn’t going to be the next Captain America anytime soon.

Additionally, Steve Rogers broke Sam Wilson and the rest of his previous Avengers out of the Raft before sending Tony Stark a letter of apology and a cell phone to use whenever Stark felt he needed their help. With every Marvel film building up to the climatic battle against Thanos and his Infinity Gauntlet, it is possible for Steve Rogers to get his shield back from Stark and become Captain America again.

So do we Steve, so do we.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.
