The Comedian felt the time was right in a discussion with Jerry Seinfeld.
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]here is no denying the wild success of The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, which delivered biting satire and a daily dose of patriotism for nine seasons. However, the show wrapped up last December when host Stephen Colbert left in preparation for succeeding David Letterman on The Late Show.
In a recent conversation with Jerry Seinfeld through the web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Colbert revealed that he knew that it was time to leave the show and move forward.
Prompted by Seinfeld commenting on how full of energy and fun the show had always been, Colbert, sporting a “mid-career Connery” beard, responded that, “I was ready to stop…I was going to stop whether or not-the Letterman thing fell in my lap.”
Colbert then proceeded to question why Seinfeld ever left “his show,” which gave Jerry a good laugh.
Although Colbert has a big reputation to live up to with his new “gig” at The Late Show, he has certainly proved himself as an incredible talent on Comedy Central, and he will hopefully bring that energy and fun to CBS.
