Will the webslinger be swinging his way into Avengers: Infinity War?
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]ith Spider-Man: Homecoming now entering the post-production stage of development, thoughts are already turning towards what’s next for Marvel’s newest webslinger, Tom Holland.
Holland was recently at the New York Film Festival doing promotional work for his upcoming film, The Lost City of Z, where he was interviewed by WWD (via Slashfilm). In the interview, WWD asked Holland about his future projects, to which the 20 year-old actor confirmed talk regarding a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is already in the works:
“My next project, I can’t tell you about, but we’ve just finished ‘Spider-Man’ and we’re talking about the second one and who the villain is going to be and where we’re going.”
It’s really not surprising that talk about a sequel is already on the go. After all, it’s long since been assumed that Homecoming will lay down the foundations for a new series of Marvel films focusing on Spidey.
The first film is said to take place during Peter Parker’s Sophmore year in high school, and thanks to Studio Head Kevin Feige – who suggested the franchise will follow a “Harry Potter format” – we know we’ll most likely be seeing a sequel which will follow his Junior year, and potentially finish off with a third movie set in his Senior school year.
But one question we still haven’t gotten a concrete answer for is whether or not Holland will appear in the next Avengers Movie, Infinity War. Since Spidey has already made an appearance in Civil War with most of the Avengers already, and Tony Stark is getting in on the action with Parker in Homecoming, it would surely be pretty easy to set up a cameo appearance for the webslinger.
Variety broached the subject during a recent interview, and from Holland’s reply, seeing him make an appearance does seem quite likely – but his answer was still vague enough to leave us hanging:
“It’s all up in the air. I believe some sort of deal is in the mix, but I’m unclear as to what that deal is.”
We would happily bank on seeing Spidey pop up in Infinity War somehow – most especially because Marvel are really trying to bring the MCU together in the same fold. If Holland doesn’t turn up, then I guess we’ll just have to eat our hats!
Regardless of whether he’ll be in Infinity War or not, we’ll still be seeing a lot more of our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man after Homecoming.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to hit theatres 7 July, 2017.
Avengers: Infinity War will be making its way to the big screens 4 May, 2018.
