The Spider-Man star will be swinging into the world of rogues and thieves.
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]t appears that Tom Holland’s role in his latest film Spider-Man: Homecoming was so good that Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman decided that the company would start another franchise with the young British star at its center. Sony Pictures has been trying for several years to bring Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series to life and many scripts from writers like Joe Carnahan (The Grey), David Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth), and Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle) have been submitted with nothing to show for it. However, it seems this all has just changed.
In what was originally going to be a film about Nathan Drake in his adult years has now been changed to a prequel of sorts. The Canadian director Shawn Levy (Real Steel, The Internship) will be directing the film, using the cinematic scenes from the third game when a young Nathan Drake meets the professional thief Sullivan as an insight on how to start a new film. While history hasn’t been kind to film adaptations of video games it is nonetheless exciting news and what may hopefully become the start of a whole new genre of Hollywood blockbuster films.
