Tom Holland would love to play the role as Spider-Man as long as he possibly can. His brief performance as Spider-man in Captain America: Civil War showcased the potential of a bright future for Spider-Man films. Holland stated the following during a discussion at Empire.
Peter Parker is a character we see [in the comic books] as a 15-year-old boy and then as a 35-year-old man. So I have an idea of what I’d like to do, and I’ve pitched it and it’s already been taken into the boardroom. It would be really cool if it pans out, because it means I would be Spider-Man for a very long time.
Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, stated that he isn’t in a hurry to see a new face for Spider-Man as he spoke of a three-film arc of web slinging action. Feige said that his goal is to see to it that all of Marvel’s notable heroes are brought back to Marvel Studios.
My goal is to replicate the experience that comic book fans have reading the books up on the screen, and we’ve been able to accomplish that beyond my wildest dreams over the last ten years. And certainly, including Spidey in Civil War and the upcoming Infinity War, is yet another dream that I didn’t even dare to talk about publicly because I thought the odds of it were very slim. So, no plans beyond that right now for the few remaining characters that aren’t already in the MCU, but I always say never say never. Who knows what can happen in the future.
Marvel Studios has taken back most of their characters; however, Fantastic Four and X-Men is still in the clutches of Twentieth Century Fox. As Feige’s crusade to collect the remaining pieces of Marvel heroes continues, the focus will be on the Spider-Man arc movies. With the word homecoming in the title of the upcoming Spider-Man film one can expect to see Peter’s high school journey during his sophomore, junior, and senior year. The current trailer definitely will give fans a reason to believe in Tom Holland and his dedication to Spidey. After all, Holland did say in the upcoming movie that he is nothing without the suit, so let’s give this man a standing ovation this year. The film Spider-Man: Homecoming will web sling its way to theaters on July 7, 2017.
