With the last traces of Final Fantasy ink still drying on their printing presses (and probably a few stray chocobo feathers still lodged in the machinery), Wizards of the Coast is already spinning up their next high-speed crossover. And this time, they’re going fast. Magic: The Gathering is teaming up with Sonic the Hedgehog for a brand-new Secret Lair drop that’s ready to boost right into your deck—or at least your collector shelf—starting July 14th at 9:00 a.m. PST sharp.
That’s right: the Blue Blur, along with his crew of chili-dog-chomping chaos buddies, is getting the cardboard treatment under Wizards’ increasingly lawless Secret Lair label. Think alternate art, high-gloss flair, and more nostalgia than a Saturday morning cartoon block.

Now, brace your wallets. Each drop will cost $29.99 for the regular edition and $39.99 for the foil version—because nothing says “gotta go fast” like watching your disposable income race straight out of your PayPal account. And if you’ve been paying attention to the collector scene lately, you already know that scalpers are foaming at the mouth to hoard these like Chaos Emeralds. Seriously, can someone tell the sneaker-head parasites to leave at least one hobby alone?
If you want a shot at these before they’re marked up to the price of a used Dreamcast, do yourself a favor and head over to the official Secret Lair website. Punch in your email, set an alarm, tattoo the date on your arm—whatever it takes. Just don’t be the one left refreshing eBay with a tear in your eye and a $200 listing on your screen.
Because let’s face it: missing this drop would be more embarrassing than getting outpaced by Big the Cat.
