Due to a conflicting schedule, Director Antoine Fuqua has left the Scarface project!
[dropcap size=small]R[/dropcap]eboots have been a big part of recent movie releases. Unfortunately for the Scarface reboot, it has hit a speed bump due to Director Antoine Fuqua leaving the project due to interest in another movie.
Sony and Denzel Washington wanted a sequel for The Equilizer and needed Fuqua to begin prepping for the movie ASAP. Despite the interest in remaking Scarface, Fuqua has spent a lot of time developing the script for The Equilizer sequel. Due to how much time that would be needed to do both movies, Fuqua left Scarface looking for another director.
Fortunately for Universal, they have already begun their search for another director, which shouldn’t affect the start of production. Universal is still aiming to start production in the spring.
The production of the Scarface reboot will be handled by Bluegrass Films and Global Produce. The producers of the movie are Marc Shmuger, Scott Stuber, and Dylan Clark. Marty Bregman, producer of the 1983 Scarface film, will also produce. The most recent draft was written by Terence Winter.
The Scarface reboot will be set in Los Angeles, with the plot focusing on a Mexican immigrant.
