With a new movie coming out, Ryan Reynolds sat down with ShortList and talked about everything from The Voices, fatherhood, and most importantly, Deadpool.
[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]uring a resent interview by ShortList about his new movie The Voices, Reynolds, best know for his laugh-out-loud comedies, was asked if his portrayal of a serial killer who takes advice from his pets was a big jump from other roles he had played. Reynolds had this to say.
“A big jump – he’s certainly not the most stable of people – but only in as much as [I was] working with an incredible filmmaker on material we all felt hadn’t been tackled before. Film premises get recycled, so it was nice to read a script that was so original.”
Many actors dive deep into the roles of the characters they portray, Reynolds was asked if he had done any research into mental health problems, considering Jerry (Reynolds character in The Voices) hears voices and suffers from demons.
“No. It feels sort of irresponsible to not say, “Oh yeah, I did a ton of research,” but Jerry is not meant to reflect real-life issues. I didn’t even want to rehearse it.”
The new father was also asked what makes him truly live, and whats the most surprising thing about parenthood?
“Having a baby. It’s crazy, you can go almost a full week without sleeping more than 10 consecutive minutes and still be in a good mood.”
The actor was unable to give up much information on the upcoming Deadpool movie, but he was asked if he was relieved that after 10 years, Deadpool is getting a cinematic release?
“I’m incredibly happy about it – we’ve got a director that understands that world, and writers with a slavish devotion to the canon of that character. That’s the most important aspect: it’s made in a way the most critical of fanboys could embrace.”
The Voices is in theaters now and Deadpool should be out February 12, 2016, both staring Ryan Reynolds.
