We may be one step closer to cross-console play, aka, Xbox and PS4 getting along.Â
Play Rocket League on Live but have buddies who only play it only on Steam? Well you’re in luck. Xbox One and PC Rocket League players can now play together online.Â
The latest update to the massively popular vehicle soccer game allows for cross-network play between the Xbox and PC, meaning online matchmaking can now draw from players using either gaming platform.Â
Psyonix Inc., the game’s developer, explains in the update patch notes that cross-network play is turned on by default, and can be turned off by going into the game’s options menu. Leaderboards can now be filtered by platform as well.Â
If you play Rocket League on PS4 and are feeling left out, you shouldnt be. The PS4 version of the game has supported cross-platform play with PC gamers since it’s launch on both platforms last July.Â
Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean Xbox One and PS4 users can play against each other. The ability to play online with gamers on all three platforms is largely up to the game’s developer as well as Microsoft and Sony. Microsoft has said in the past they’re open to supporting cross-platform play on every platform, but Sony has been quiet on the matter.Â
If the game were to support cross-network play on all three platforms, it would be a notable stride in Xbox and PlayStation online compatibility, and perhaps advocate more games to do so. Maybe someday.Â
Rocket League is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.Â
