This is an interesting development!
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]here have been a few different trailers for the upcoming Power Rangers movie. In a few trailers the character Rita Repulsa has possibly alluded to a past as a power ranger. Say what? Time to put on the tin foil hats and talk theories.
There is a popular fan theory that Rita Repulsa was once the green ranger and that she killed her former team to obtain more power. This theory has some merit with some of the dialogue from Repulsa in the trailers that hints at this. In one trailer while she was talking to Trini, the yellow ranger, she says “Do you know who I am? I was once just like you. Full of hope.”
This could mean a couple of things but it sounds like Rita is referencing a time when she was a ranger. In a recent TV spot Rita is heard mentioning that she “has killed rangers before” adding further to the theory. You can view the TV spot below.
There is also the fact that Rita Repulsa wears green armor that slightly resembles the power rangers armor. While this could just be a coincidence or the costume designer just likes that design, it could also be that Rita still wears her ranger armor suit and it is in a state of corruption.
Another part of this theory is that Rita Repulsa and Zordon were both power rangers instead of just being sorcerers, like they originally were in the TV series. Bryan Cranston, who plays Zordon, may have let it slip that he was a former ranger. With that in mind it makes the Zordon vs Rita Repulsa battle even more personal.
The evidence seems to support this theory that Rita Repulsa was once the green ranger. However we won’t know until the film comes so until then lets keep on those tin foil hats and keep thinking of theories!
Power Rangers will be released in theaters on March 24.
