Can Elizabeth Banks pull off Rita Repulsa? Acabelieve it!
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]f you’ve watched the past two Pitch Perfect you might have become accustomed to Elizabeth Banks portraying the role of an acapella announcer that has no filter and if so, the photo below of Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa from the set of the upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers film might catch you off guard.
Admittedly, Elizabeth Banks’ Rita Repulsa looks nothing like the original but that doesn’t mean the new Rita Repulsa is repulsing either. Her costume design certainly seems to have a darker tone than the one Rita Repulsa used to wear, but that fits in well with the remake which has been rumored to be darker and different from the original film.
“I’ve never played a villain before. It’s definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa. We wanted to give her a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers.”
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is due to hit theaters in March of 2017.
