The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of big name actors, ranging from Robert Downey Jr. to Paul Rudd. That list is reportedly about to get even bigger.
According to sources, Joaquin Phoenix is currently in talks for the titular role of the upcoming movie Doctor Strange. Marvel just announced that the mystical superhero’s first ever feature film will be released in July 2016, and with Comic-Con in full swing, it’s very possible we’ll get an official announcement this weekend.
Phoenix has earned Oscar nominations for his roles in Walk the Line, Gladiator, and The Master, and would play a major superhero in a movie that’s part of Phase Three in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Doctor Strange is slated to follow Ant-Man and the tentatively titled Captain America 3, set to be released in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Doctor Strange is slated to be released on July 8th, 2016.
