[toggler title=”TL;DR” ]While it is true that Marvel wants Rachel McAdams to play a role in Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange, the actress has yet to confirm if she has accepted the part. She said, “I don’t have much to say about it right now. There’s not really anything to comment on. But, if there is, I’ll let you know.”[/toggler]
[dropcap size=small]R[/dropcap]oughly five weeks ago a rumor surfaced that Marvel was looking into the actress Rachel McAdams for playing an unspecified role opposite of Benjamin Cumberbatch in Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange. As it turns out, the rumor is true. Rachel McAdams confirmed that Marvel had expressed some interest in her.
Unfortunately, Rachel McAdams was very elusive with Den of Geek when she was asked if she had accepted a role for the film. She said:
I don’t have much to say about it right now. There’s not really anything to comment on. But, if there is, I’ll let you know.”
However, when the thirty-six year old actress was interviewed by the The Los Angeles Times, she had a bit more to say about the subject. She made sure to get her point across that she wasn’t a “comic book snob” and went on to say:
“It’s still super-early days, and I don’t know where that’s gonna go, if it’s gonna go anywhere at all.”
To be fair, Rachel McAdams has a past record of turning down roles for Marvel films. She was Jon Favreau’s top choice to play Pepper Pots in Iron Man and she turned down the role. At the same time, no one knew for sure if Iron Man would turn out to be a smashing success for the entertainment company, which would go on to produce more incredibly popular superhero films. So it makes that Rachel McAdams was hesitant to take the role. Towards the end of her interview she did offer some insight as to why she turns down roles for films.
“It’s often out of my own insecurity. If I’m picky, it’s for that reason. I want to be able to bring my best to the table. So if I’m not connecting to something, then I’m not gonna hold up my end of the bargain, and that’s really embarrassing.”
From the sounds of it, it looks like Rachel McAdams may not take the unspecified role in Doctor Strange. Seeing as how she isn’t a “comic book snob” as she so eloquently put it. Then again, she might see it as a challenge she would like to take on. What do you think? Would you like to see Rachel McAdams in Doctor Strange? Let us know in comments below!
Doctor Strange will arrive in theaters November 4th, 2016.
