Solrock and Lunatone better be the mascots.
Just a day before the upcoming Pokémon-themed Nintendo Direct, it looks like the presentation’s big announcement may have been leaked.
Nerd Leaks has uncovered trademarks and logos for Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.
These trademarks appear to be legitimate, as Nintendo Co. Ltd filed the registration.
Apparently, the trademark covers a variety of media, like games and merchandise, which would make sense, considering Pokémon’s wide scope and appeal.
Assuming these leaks are real, are Sun and Moon a brand new generation of Pokémon games?
We never received the traditional third entry for the sixth generation of Pokémon for the 3DS, which many believed it would be called Pokémon Z, but we only got X and Y, and the remakes Alpha Ruby and Omega Sapphire.
Fan-made box art for the hypothetical Pokémon Z.
Some are speculating that Sun and Moon aren’t necessarily a brand new generation of Pokémon, but rather a continuation of X and Y, with an expanded Kalos region, and a handful of more Pocket Monsters.
However, Nintendo and Pokémon Company are undergoing big changes, with a platform dubbed NX in development at the Big N, and Pikachu and friends coming to mobile with Pokémon GO.
So could Sun and Moon be NX games? Or the first mainline Pokémon games on mobile?
We’ll have to wait till tomorrow to find out, and heck, it’s possible Sun and Moon aren’t games, or are not even revealed then.
Regardless, get hyped trainers.
The Nintendo Pokémon Direct will air tomorrow, February 26, at 7.00 am PT and will broadcast on Twitch at twitch.tv/nintendo as well as the Nintendo Direct website at nintendo.com/nintendo-direct.
