Ant-Man’s success makes up for his stature.
[dropcap size=small]E[/dropcap]ver since the unexpected success of Ant-Man, rumblings of the tiny hero’s involvement in future Marvel projects began to grow.
With the sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp making its first steps in pre-production, and the recruitment of Paul Rudd in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War this summer, the ant-sized burglar Scott Lang is becoming more and more involved in the Marvel universe.
But what does Rudd think of it all?
During an interview at the Sundance Film Festival with Comingsoon.net via Superherohype – where Rudd was promoting his latest project The Fundamentals of Caring – Rudd discussed the popularity of Lang and his shrinking suit, and spoke of his prediction that the film and its character would go further than the one movie:
I know that when I signed up for it that there was always the potential that they’d do another one or it would tie in in some way, but specifically, I wasn’t aware and I’m still not totally aware of how that’s the case…We are doing a second one, so those meetings are starting to be scheduled and underway as far as what it’s going to be. We’ll start writing it soon.
It seems Rudd always had an awareness of the potential the film had within the franchise, but didn’t foresee where it would take him or Lang.
Many may not be aware that Rudd actually wrote the screenplay for Ant-Man, and will be writing the story of the sequel alongside Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari.
Given that the post-credits sequence of Ant-Man saw him enter the Avengers base and go head-to-head with Falcon, it was to be expected that he would be involved with the rest of the Marvel gang in future somehow.

Rudd also expressed how ‘great’ Marvel had been in regards to his work schedule, and what an easy ride its been working with the studio despite the ever-growing success of Ant-Man:
I worked on ‘Civil War’ and I didn’t really work on it for very long, but as far as ‘Ant-Man 2,’ I already know when that’s going to go, so you just kind of plan accordingly. If anything comes along that I can film before or after and it works out time-wise and it makes sense, Marvel’s been supportive.
There’s nothing like a supportive studio to keep the pressure off when you’re in the shoes of a popular superhero!
Ant-Man and the Wasp is due for release 6 July, 2016, and Captain America: Civil War will hit theatres 6 May, 2016.
