Series creator Genndy Tartakovsky also set to return.
One of the most iconic and well-received cartoons of the early 2000’s is making a triumphant return.
A new season of Samurai Jack will air on Adult Swim in 2016.
The news was confirmed via a short video (originally) released by Adult Swim.
In the video description, it was also confirmed that series creator Genndy Tartakovsky (also known for creating Dexter’s Laboratory, and Star Wars: Clone Wars) will return as well.
Samurai Jack follows the titular warrior (voiced by Phil LaMarr) as he attempts to return home to Feudal Japan after being transported by the demon Aku (voiced by the late Mako Iwamatsu) to the distant future, where Aku rules all.
Sporting a distinct animation style, dark themes, and stellar voice work, Samurai Jack was lauded by critics and fans, and is often considered to be one of the greatest animated shows of all time.
The show ran from 2001-2004 on Cartoon Network, where it was unfortunately not picked up after its initial 52 episode run.
Samurai Jack was also praised for its gritty tone and violence, which is perhaps why the series will air on CN’s shared network, Adult Swim.
We literally cannot wait for Samurai Jack to come back. Do check out the original series if you have not.
