New Mutants Trailer: Will This Movie Actually Come Out This Year?

The Somewhat New But Now Older Mutants

It’s been well over two years since the last one, but we finally have another look at The New Mutants: the latest X-Men movie and one of the most notable delayed films of the decade.

Five young mutants find themselves trapped in a secret facility, forcing them to reconcile with their powers to escape and survive.

The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, The Witch) as Magik, Maisie Williams (Arya from Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Cannonball, Henry Zaga (Teen Wolf) as Sunspot, and newcomer Blu Hunt as Mirage; as well as Alice Braga (I am Legend) as mentor Cecilia Reyes.

At one point the most interesting thing about The New Mutants was that, per director Josh Boone, it’s a “Stephen King meets John Hughes” take on X-Men, but now in 2020, it’s that this movie hasn’t released yet.

The film’s original release date was in April 2018, but it was pushed to 2019 following a release date reshuffle with Dark Phoenix. That’s just the beginning though, as the film was pushed again following reshoots and the Disney Fox merger, leading to the now set release date of April 3, 2020, two years later.

There have been reports Disney was not happy with the cut of the film they received, but recent reports point out that Boone himself oversaw the version of the movie we’re getting which is hopefully a good thing.

But will the movie be delayed again? Will Maisie Williams be 30 by the time this movie actually comes out? (Probably not but I kind of want that to happen. Oh God I’m so old.)

The New Mutants (finally) hits theaters on April 3, 2020.
