Did someone say FREEZE?
The second trailer for Marvel Studio’s Black Panther has dropped, and it’s awesome. Check it out.
While the first trailer set the scene by reintroducing us to the titular Black Panther, T’Challa (whom we first met in Captain America: Civil War), this new trailer sets the scene by giving us a better look at T’Challa’s kingdom Wakanda, and the film’s main villains, Erik Killmonger and Ulysses Klaue.
30 seconds into the trailer, we see that Wakanda is quite literally a hidden nation, protected by some sort of invisible barrier (like if Themyscira was powered by technology). We see the nation is a mix of modern buildings with mountainous landscapes, and colorful culture, making for one off the most unique settings in the MCU yet.
A little over a minute in, we meet Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), an outcast who wants to overthrow T’Challa. At 1:24, we see that Killmonger, as the previous trailer suggested, will indeed team up with Klaue (played by Andy Serkis, and who made his MCU debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron), with Killlmonger threatening that the world will start over, and he will “burn it all.”
Perhaps the biggest surprises in the trailer is that the Black Panther suit can form over T’Challa’s body, similar to Iron Man’s Extremis armor in the comics, AND that Killmonger has a Panther suit of his own! Earlier in the trailer, we see T’Challa looking at two Panther suits, one of which worn by Killmonger later on. How did Killmonger get the suit? Did he steal it? Is it rightfully his?
We’re not sure, but we do know that Black Panther is gearing up to be a fresh and intriguing entry in the MCU. Oh and below is the new poster. Nice job making the cut, Martin Freeman!
Black Panther arrives in theaters on February 16, 2018.
