With Hacksaw Ridge receiving six Oscar nominations it’s no wonder Warner Bros. wants him to direct Suicide Squad 2
[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]espite the fact that Suicide Squad failed to impress most fans and critics, the film drew in $745 million worldwide and Warner Bros. was quick to capitalize on the achievement by pushing for a sequel. David Ayer, who directed the first film, is now in charge of developing a spin-off film titled Gotham Sirens which will reunite the director with Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) and center around other female villains from the DC Universe. Because of this the director’s seat is now open and waiting to be filled for the sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources, Mel Gibson is familiarizing himself with the content surrounding Suicide Squad and Warner Bros. appears to be aggressively pursuing the director. Nonetheless, should Mel Gibson decide to not take on the project Warner Bros. is actively pursuing other directors like Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Child 44) as well. With David Ayer now leaving the director’s seat Warner Bros. is looking to bring in someone new who can possibly give the sequel a better touch and Mel Gibson just might be the man for the job.
