Disney has given the green light for a straight-to-series order!
[dropcap size-small]T[/dropcap]he Freeform network has gotten their hands in the mix with Marvel.
Disney has allowed Freeform to plan and shoot a straight-to-series order, according to Variety.
Cloak and Dagger is a love story based on the titular comic book duo (which is also known as Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson) who appeared in Marvel Classics, including Spider-Man and X-Men series.
The live-action story follows two teenagers with very different backstories. They find themselves in love and with superpowers. Tandy is able to emit daggers and Tyrone can bury others in darkness. They both learn that they have better luck when they stick together, rather than alone. But there’s also the fact that they have feelings for each other, which complicates things.
No writer has been chosen for this series yet. Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios will co-produce the series.
The character story aims at young adults, so Freeform (previously known as ABC Family) makes Cloak and Dagger a perfect fit.
This is Freeform’s first Marvel series, while their big brother network ABC has plenty of Marvel property under their name, including Agents of Shield and Agent Carter. ABC is also making a ‘Mockingjay’ spinoff Marvel’s Most Wanted, while a top-secret project led by John Ridley is in development now.
Cloak and Dagger will pair up nicely with Freeform’s fantasy series Shadowhunters, which was just renewed for a second season.
