Even with low ratings and a high price tag, Marvel’s Agent Carter will be returning for a second season thanks to the show’s massive fan base and critical acclaim.
[dropcap size=small]S[/dropcap]he doesn’t have super powers, she isn’t filthy rich, and she isn’t one S.H.I.E.L.D.S.’ highly trained agents. So what is it about Agent Carter, played by the smart and stunning Hayley Atwell, that we all love so much? For starters, she is human and she is normal. Well, I wouldn’t say that performing administrative work at the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR) during the day and going on secret missions in her spare time is normal. But she is a special character that many people found themselves feeling incredibly loyal and connected with.
Throughout the first season of Agent Carter, viewers saw Peggy Carter in her quieter moments. We saw her grieving the alleged death of Steve Rogers/Captain America. In addition to this, the show was able to humanize her in a way that Captain America: The First Avenger could not. In doing so, many fans of the show became quite attached to Peggy. While all of this was happening, Peggy was also investigating the whereabouts Hydra and their intentions, proving that espionage isn’t just a man’s job. The first season of Agent Carter also explained the origins of the Black Widow program through the character Dottie, which is where the Avenger Natasha Romanoff got her training before joining S.H.I.E.L.D.
Agent Carter‘s original purpose was to explain how S.H.I.E.L.D. came to be while also being used to fill the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. time slot while that show was on winter hiatus. It would be safe to assume that Agent Carter will be doing the same thing for the break of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. next winter. With news like this, it’s a great day to be a Marvel fan.
