[dropcap size=small]C[/dropcap]lear up some space on your comic book shelf. Marvel Comics has announced the upcoming release of the King-Size Kirby hardcover collection.
The 800-page book will pack in some of the most definitive works spanning across almost four decades of Marvel comics. The hardcover showcases over forty Marvel comics published between 1940 and 1978 to celebrate the career and art of the late Jack Kirby.
Jack Kirby, along with Stan Lee, helped usher in the modern Marvel Universe with Fantastic Four #1 in 1961. Kirby would go on to co-create and illustrate some of the biggest titles in comics including The Hulk, the Avengers, the X-Men, Thor, Sgt. Fury, and countless others. Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso said it best by stating:
[dropcap size=small]“[/dropcap]If there were a Mount Rushmore of American comic book artists, Jack Kirby would be front and center.”
The hardcover will stand over a foot tall, and comes in Marvel’s Adamantium-sized format (previously used for 2013’s Wolverine: The Adamantium Collection).
Marvel’s SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel offers a word of caution:
[dropcap size=small]“[/dropcap]Fans should reinforce their bookshelves and coffee tables. This one is going to be huge — literally! We’re aiming to bring fans the ultimate collection, the ultimate collectable and the definitive Jack Kirby experience. The King of Comics deserves no less.”
