It’s my favorite time of the year once again. No, not the holiday season. The 7th annual Mario Marathon, supporting Child’s Play, began today!
What is Mario Marathon?
Mario Marathon is a live-streamed, unofficial, fan fundraiser that directly supports Child’s Play Charity. The Mario Marathon is run by a group of guys and gals, who marathon main Mario titles including:
- Super Mario Bros. 1-3
- The Lost Levels
- Super Mario World
- Super Mario 64
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii
- New Super Mario Bros. U
- Super Mario 3D Land
The event is structured to unlock more levels with higher donation amounts, granting more play-time with more money donated. The Mario Marathon has been known to last as long as 100+ hours and has collectively raised over $1 million throughout its existence.
What is Child’s Play?
Child’s Play, originally created by Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik of Penny Arcade, is a charity that donates games, books and toys to children that are hospitalized long-term. You can find more information about Child’s Play here.
